That's the el-cheapo class-d mixing console... 16/4, does the trick although i would prefer it if it had pfl/afl... but who can complain for £170 new??? lol This gig was loud! 3Kw FOH, 1Kw monitors, in a venue with maximum capacity of 150. Video: vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1110923662Bear in mind that the video was taken with a standard digital camera... right next to one of the speaker stacks.

just got back from Braintree rock! absolutely knackered. pulled a muscle in my back in the first 2 hours!! great gig, shame about the force 9 gales threatening to tear the stage down though! fantastic punters - they sat through the lot. by nine it was quite packed, most seeming to really enjoy the blockheads (my personal favourite of the day, even though Phil Jupitus was a bit crook with his tooth) and The Stranglers were fantastic - so im off to stock up my mp3 collecton with some old tunes!!! spent every night asleep under the foh desk!! (forgot sleeping bag...huge Midas flightcase was nice and warm!!!) anyway, i wont put tons of pics on, just a few that are relevant - i.e. lots of lovely gadgets! (and a few musicians) Midas FOH and stage in background, note flown KV2 mid tops. KV2 bass bins and subs - 2x15's, 2 x 18's, 2 x 21's stage saturday morning before punters (and gales) arrive stranglers mon guy studies routing 'XXX and drugs and rock and roll.........' we had a tea urn and a barbie backstage! main mon tech better view of stage - all arrived on a trailer - took 2HOURS to erect! better than those flippin dome things!!! PA was concluded to be a bit top hot but we blamed the terrain and the wind. sound was brilliant and we ended up turning off the bottom two mid tops as mid was tearing our FOH engineer's head off!

Hi Soundiesam,
Great speakers, not sure about the positioning of them though. Subs will be transmitting their vibrations straight through the stage that they are sat on, through the mic stands and straight into the microphones. Makes it very hard to get a good kick drum sound with all that low muck in there as well. Also the mid tops are below head height, which means if you get a large crowd then the front rows are killed by the trebble and the back can't here any definition.
Solution:
2 small scaff platforms either side of the stage about 6 foot tall. You want the low mid driver just above head height and the horn well above. Put wooden blocks under the rear of the cabinet so as you get a slight downwards tilt to the cabinet. Good rule of thumb is that if you placed a ruler on top of the cabinet, the ruler should point at the heads of the audience at the back of the area.
Place the subs on the ground under the scaff towers to take advantage of the "free" 6dB boost in bass that this gives. (placing them any distance at all from a boundary will introduce cancellations)
Finally and most importantly - use ratchet straps and tension the mid tops to the scaff tower so that they cannot move. The last thing you want is for some drunken idiot to start climbinmg the tower and drag one of the speakers onto himself - as you put it up there, YOU are liable.
Hope this helps,
S

the system was set up like that because it wasnt the system i expected! usually i would have had the tops higher but didnt have the stands to do it! the subs wouldnt have been worked on the floor under the platform because they wouldnt have fitted! it was a christian community event so there wasnt ever gonna be likely to have drunken people having the ability to climb on the speakers. the kick drum sounded shocking before the mic was even on it due to the band not giving a rats ass about havin a decent kit! so yeh i did take lots of that stuff into consideration i just had to work this way and on the day it sounded good so yeh thanks for your suggestions its always good to have other peoples opinions sam

rofl - folling on floor laughing. i meant if i was there, drunk as i dont know what, the temptation to climb onto a speaker would have been high - but i dont think i would actually do it though!!!! its amazing the amount of self control you actually have once drunk!!
it was a joke sam!
