Just ordered a couple of these www.cableprotector.co.uk/Products.aspx?c=10&p=11I have seen them used at gigs I have been to, but they are not cheap by any means, unless you buy quite a few, which attracts a fair discount. However, they are so much easier to use than the type that I currently have, where the cables are pushed into slots underneath. Anyone else use them? John.

Hi John
We have 4 x 1m yellowjackets but only use them occasionally, the downside to them is they are bloody heavy (about 25kg each IIRC) and they aren't that easy to separate. We only use them when we need to run a 63/3 cable or a multicore across a driveway or similar and usually put traffic cones & barriers either side of the 4m stretch. Probably should get another one really, as a 5m stretch would be better. I saw a race timing guy using a smaller, much lighter version earlier this year. He said he would forward the details but didn't, apparently he got them from the states. The amount of them you need to do anything useful (eg: a 30m run from stage to FOH tent) makes them prohibitive, moreso on weight and transport logistics rather than cost.

I actually intend to use mine to cross a pedestrian exit at a big local venue, as there is nowhere to temporarily hang my 2x multicores, DMX and power leads.
The last time I had my rigs there, I left them on the floor with 2x heavy duty rubber mats over them, but I was worried about damage.
The venue normally runs it's own multicore and leads through the suspended ceiling, but I will not have time to do that.
I must admit, I did not see anything regarding the weight on the web site and was quite surprised when I had to move them after delivery. Good job I only purchased two. John.

I used both units linked together at the gig and they were great for the job. Took a bit of stick from my old bass player Pete, who called them speed bumps. I had purchased a folding polycarbonate trolley a couple of years ago, but although it is strong, it was too small for what I was going to use it for. However it is perfect for the cable guards, but "kin" heavy when loaded with both. No probs for "Whole Lotta Roadie" Andy.
