Has anyone had experience of MATRIX amplifiers.
I was thinking of using a MATRIX XT4004EQ to power my 4x SmartSound 18", 8ohm, Eminence Sigma Pro (650w rms) loaded subs.
It provides 4x channels of 650w rms into 8ohms, or 4x 1000w rms into 4 ohms and has LP and HP filter facilities. It only pulls 10amps of the mains, is 2U and weighs just 8.5kg, but it costs loads.
I currently use my old PSS2400 for the job, but it tends to thermo-cycle in hot weather at outside gigs. It pulls a full 13 amps from the mains and could probably cook your breakfast.
It only provides 2x 1200w rms into 4 ohms, so it is slightly underpowered for the task.
Cheers, John.

If I purchased 2x MATRIX XT4004EQ amplifiers, I could split them either side of the stage, with short heavy speakon leads to preserve the great damping factor and power the whole of my FOH with them. 1x channel for each sub (8ohm, 4x 650w rms). 1x channel for each pair of JBL MRX515's (4ohm, 2x 1000w rms) 1x channel for each SmartSound LP115 (8ohms, 2x 650w rms)
I could then use my new Crown amps to run all of my monitors and drum fill.
Sounds like a plan.

I have ordered 2x MATRIX XT4004EQ amplifiers, so when I get them racked-up I will let you know how they perform.
I will pass on my PSS2400 to Andy Lee to play with. It's been my main amp for a very long time and apart from the odd thermo-cycle in hot weather, it has performed well.
Cheers, John.

I racked-up 1 of my new Matrix XT4004EQ amps in my studio and ran 4x 18" subs and 4x 15" mid/high cabs. (2x cabs per channel). What or should I say "WATT" a difference. Real watts, real low THD and high damping factor. Only had it ticking over, but it sounded amazing. I will be re-cabling my rig ready for The Blow gig at The Tropic at Ruislip on Sat. 7th, Jan. I am looking forward to engineering this gig and recording them live on the iMac. www.theblow.co.uk/#/gigs/4552069079
