yeah. i remember these boxes well, theyve actually been replaced now by a lighter and more compact version called the FD2. You do still see them around though, Manchester Academy uses a fair amount.

A few quick pics from our foray at KOKO last week - i finally got my hands on a Vi6 and...yes it really is easy to work with...it just LOOKS complicated. Brilliant. we all had a really great time at KOKO and the staff there were excellent, as was the food and the way we were looked after. Fantastic. Nice JBL VERTEC array in there, with side fills and subs under the stage. yummy.

heres a few others; GB8 foldback at CLWB IFOR BACH (little ivors club) - and i think pa was LOgic system array, FOH was MH4 Foldback desk was GB8!! Engineer comes extra. LOL. M7CL at Tamworth Empire. Took a bit of getting used to, that one! Club Korova in Liverpool had an old Allen and heath desk, but it did the trick. Shame i couldnt see the stage at ALL from where i was sitting! Allen and heath at King Tuts wah wah hut. Great desk, great people, great gig. Nightlife was a blast as well! Keep seeing a lot of these Funktion One cabs around the country - these were ferociously loud at A small bar next to Rock city, Nottingham

OK. Here are a couple of snaps for you. I recently worked at the CCIB in Barcelona and had to use the house rig. It is Martin WL8 rig with a PM1D on the front end. The curious thing is, because of the horribly reflective surfaces (stone and glass walls, with a metal ceiling) they have come up with an unusual solution to try and calm all the reflections. Barn doors! You can't really see them on the picture but I promise that all except the lower four boxes in each hang have barn doors of about half a metre square on each side. Using the PM1D was quite an experience too. 48 mixes and 24 matrix sends for 96 inputs.

Blimey. barn doors. As long as it works!!! I've just come back from the first leg of our tour (Dan le sac vs scroobius pip) with the Rumblestrips and Mark Ronson, and it's been great so far, albeit a bit cold, it's no fun kipping in the iveco with no night heater at minus 6!! I duly opted for my own heating device, a large pack of draught guinness which helped to deaden all feeling. LOL. Got my hands on the D design ICON at last, and even though Mark's tech Jay isn't too keen on it, i found it very easy to use. Great features like being able to fiddle with the eq and have the relevant fader right there under your hand so you dont have to sprint over to the other side of the desk for a level change - very nice! Jay was very understanding and two days into the tour i was programming it - i'm just getting onto gates and fx now. the FOH pa is dragged around the country by Stardes and Beat the street, and is the NEXO Geo-T, which are easily configurable for each venue - so far, all the Carling apollo's up and down the country. For the Sheffield Octogon, they simply stacked the nexo's on top of the subs for this smaller venue. The whole system was supplied by SSE and this tour really is top notch - 2 articulated 40 foot trailers for all the flightcased pa and lighting arrays, and four double decker coaches carrying 60 people to each gig. It's like being part of a moving town!!! LOL. theres even a travelling chef and staff! And theres me turning up in my bashed up iveco daily tourbus. LOL. heres a few piccies. Mark Ronson in Soundcheck Marks band, the version players, in soundcheck ...apparently this is true, according to Manchester Apollo staff! Nexo Array Yummy yammy PM1D foldback desk, run by our mate Paul from ESL. very expensive. Eek. close-up of the operating screen on the FOH D design ICON another view of the d design ICON clever refraction devices around the overheads. Beat the street - should be 'take up all the space in the street' On interrogation, Jay says that ont he ronson tour, theres hardly any 58's, its all Beyer M88's and Sennheiser wireless, guitar cab and drum mikes. Not sure what the overheads were, i'll take some better pictures at Brighton Dome on thursday.
