Hi,
I am just finishing a music degree at university and am extremely keen on doing everything i can to become a sound engineer. I have completed music technology modules and have worked with protools and Cubase etc but appreciate that my skills as a sound engineer are currently very underdeveloped. I originally thought that somewhere like SAE or Alchema would be the best way of learning a theoretical and practical approach to music production which would make me employable.
However, the more I read the more it is suggested that studio owners want to employ people as young as they can get them partly so they can develop their skills themselves. Would you reccommend writing to studios at this point and trying to sell myself on the grounds that I would be easy to train from scratch as I had no pre-conceptions of the recording business and could take on a particular style of producing? Or, do you think that attending a course such as audio production at SAE would aid my plight to get a foot in the sound engineering door?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated!
Xena.

from what i can gather about sae is the audio courses they do are only really useful when it comes to giving u experience with p tools which u already have experience in no>? I mean how much money do you want to spend really, the idea is to make it surely?

well i have never done a course (although i have a c+g in electrical theory etc) i learnt it all through trial and error; however i still expect to get left behind when it all goes digital! back to school for me then!

You know i was thinking it'd be a good idea to do something like that... I have so much respect for the generation of engineers who are self taught because there just weren't these courses... But I'm in a rut!!!! Do i learn the latest software inside out or do i learn electrics/electronics all courses seem to be on or the other it's so frustrating. There aren't enough hours in the day -really!
