Ok, I've set all the levels to zero (0db), killed the highest register on the graphs and im still getting quite an intrusive hiss on the wedges.
Yes i'm using behringer ultragraphs in the chain - funnily enough i get a little hiss from my FOH DBX unit as well! (nowhere near as bad as the wedges tho).
Any ides? I'm happy to change the bellingers if they are in fact the problem - i might try bypassing them when im down there in the week just to se if they are the root of the prob - if they are, i'll replace with better, so suggestions? They have to be 2U max as im pushed for space in the booth rack.
checked the aux sends and its not there, BTW

Try taking out units in the signal chain and see if one of them stiops the noise.
Check your cabling.
I have 3 Yamaha Q2031s for sale still if you want them - I'd accept £320 for the 3 if your interested Jim.

could be dirty amp pots or generally dirty any pot in the monitoring system. shouldnt matter too much for most gigs as they are generally spanked.

problem solved.
After actually turning up the gains and hearing the hiss in the cans straight from the desk - i methodically muted each channel - until i came to the channel i use for stage talkback. Because i had hastily (some time ago) used an unbalanced jack to xlr to connect my 'talk to stage thru mons' mike, this meant the gain had to be right up for there to be any decent level in the monitors. DOH. I replaced this with a short xlr-xlr and the hiss is gone.
its always the nut holding the desk that knackers things!
