;D ok so its not strictly lighting but - has anyone any reccomendations for good smoke machines?
I'm sick to death of buying them and then having them bung up after about 4 gigs. every one i have had has got blocked or died somehow - i've even got really good at stripping them down and re-building them - but i've had it so can someone PLEASE reccomend a good unit? pref DMX controllable though not essential.

Try Antari there a decent enough price range and we've had our hazer and smokie for 2 years and nothings happend to it, if you prefer to go up market id suggest fetting a Martin Jem 800 or even higher a Le Maitre number, very reliable and good. Orrrr failing that you could always hire a Challenger 2 tank which creates its own smoke machine by injecting diesel onto the hot exhaust, thus you could get the same effect by pouring diesel onto a 2kw heater by the side of the stage may have the same effect, just keep it out of sight! or you could just buy a new smoke machine ;D

i could!!! i saw the le maitre units in use, very good, liked the remote fan idea!!
ive had 3 antari's and hey have all ended up knackered - someone suggested i blow distilled water through them every once in a while.
always liked martin stuff - i'll have a look around. thanks for that!!!

if you are using a decent quality smoke machine, and they keep breaking, id susspect the location or smoke fluid is a bit iffy. they are designed to be used completely horizontal or they block, and cheap smoke fluid will screw them up. My cheap cheap thing (1500w chinese thing costing £100 new) has been going 2 years now without a problem. Came with a key fob remote too.... kool party piece, setting it off whilst in the crowd!
