Hi Jim, I lived in Braintree for 10 years before moving to Middlesex. I am on-call that week-end, but if i can get cover, I would like to be there. This gig is a big leap for you and I wish you all the best. How did you manage to get it? John.

Er - DON'T PANIC!
Seriously though, make sure they supply you with a really good system tech who knows about their kit inside out and is familiar with all the details of arraying their system.
Secondly, make sure they supply you with a first rate monitor engineer. This is REALLY important. If your monitor guy louses up there is nothing you can do to resurect the sound at FOH. Also they need to be sh!t hot at problem solving as you will be 50m+ away and can do nothing about any problems.
Thirdly, take walkie talkies with you. You need to be able to communicate directly with your monitor guy and other crew.
Fourthly, say high to Chaz Jankel (Blockheads guitar player) for me.
Hope this helps, S

Chaz is mental. i did the sound for him 2 years ago. i love the faces he pulls playing that bass. gurning to the max!!
regarding walkies; ive got about 4 pmr446 maxons (the nice big chunky ones not the rubbish argos things) so i will be using those. The company who are supplying the pa are also supplying a tech and a monitor engineer; he's a good guy actually...but i cant remember his name.
i do remember him falling asleep at the mon desk one day when this terrible band were playing at a festival i was stage managing. now that was funny.
John. keep in touch, i may be able to wange a guest pass, we will see how it goes. Got the gig by putting the pa company in touch with the fest organisers. they tendered and got the job; and i consequently got the big chair!
