On my mixer i have 6 xlr and 4 stereo channels (8 L&R mono jack) I am using all mics and DI's on the XLR channels but i want to put some transducers and mics (mono jack) for drums on the remaining channels. Will I have any problems regarding sound clearence or anything like that?
I have had a problem in the past with my old mono mixer that just had jacks on it and the bass guitar freq. cleared out the high freq. of the guitar.
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil, You will need a pre-amp for the mics and an amp/cab simulator for the guitars. I used to use a Behringer Ultragain Pro Tube Dual Mic Pre-amp, to expand my 8x mic channel & 4x stereo channel mixer, to 10 mic channels, before I purchased a bigger mixer. I also used an Award Sessionmaster II guitar amp simulator, to get that powerful sound at low volumes. Both are 1U rack-mounting devices and sound great. John.

Thanks. The mixer I use is a behringer ub1832 fx pro, The stereo channels have a sort of pre amp thing on but its just on a switch but for me its usually too much pre amped or too less. I will probs make a few Pre amps only about a pound or something to build.
Thanks

Hi Phil, you may be able to build pre's at that price, but they are the most important part of a mixer. The quality of everything else in the audio chain, depends on what the pre's can do. Ever since I purchased my Mackie Onyx 1640 with the FireWire card, I really appreciate what a good pre-amp should sound like. John.

I understand that. But for a 14 year old I just want to get something to do the job. Already in det after buying new FoH and Monitor Cabs ;D
I'm working on getting more gear but I think everyone wil agree it aint a cheap biz to be in. - But its all experience for me.
Thanks for the concern and info about the Pre Amps
Phil

get another small mixer and connect it to the stereo channels! that solves the prob! i use a soundcraft E8 for tiny gigs, and if i need more channels i just link one to the other over two vacant channels! good luck matey, 14 eh? blimey i dont even remember being that young!

;D I was thinking of getting another mixer, something along the lines of a behringer 1U rackmount mixer. As long as it uses xlr.
The only problem with being young and wanting to get a good sound setup is my mam and dad. Everything is always too over the top or too expensive. - Good thing I got a loaded granny ;D
