So I’m looking in to a career in sound engineering, I’ve always been technical, did a few productions in school and such but never really took it seriously. I am really looking in to becoming some sort of Studio sound engineer but I don’t really know where to start, are there any decent courses/ degrees available? I figured this would be a decent place to ask since you all seem well experienced.
Thanks in advance.

dont mean too sound harsh, but dont bother. its a dieing industry loaded with people trying too make it. Unless you get some proper experience and really excel yourself, you wont go anywhere above minimum wage. id stay technical and use your brain for something worthy which pays the bills.

Well I was thinking more of a wider approach, I mean you can go in to anything with the right knowledge/ mindset. Help develop game tracks, tv sound production, studio recordings, gigs etc... With that being said, I see where you're comming from but isn't most industries nowadays like that?

I have been in Telecoms for 40 years and that has earned me the money to do what I really like. Live sound engineering, stage lighting, running my own rehearsal/recording facility studio and drumming in my own band. I can afford to do great charity gigs and help raise a lot of money for very worthy causes. So maybe like me, you should find a rewarding career that earns you the money to do what you really like in your free time. At my age it's knackering, but I couldn't be without it. John.
