Hi there, I did a gig at a rather large hall on sat (atleast 60Metres long ++) The place was big high domed ceilings and wooden dancefloor.
I found that my HFs were just filling about half way back and then the back was mush! Unfortunatly for various reasons I couldnt get the JBL TR125s I usually use so I had some Ohm rw4 or r4s. They have a smallish horn flare in so I wasnt surprised about the coverage I had.
What would you all reccomend for some long throw mid high cabs? Or design if anyone knows a good cab plan and drivers etc.
Also how long a distance venue would you normally use long throw cabs?

We used some meyer sound msl4's now I wasnt too much of a fan of the situation we were in and the fact we were ground stacking. But they worked immensely well and threw the 40m we needed it to throw and we had extra headroom.
When you start getting to longer distances like that , maybe think of using delay towers / fills to add the extra bit.

cheers for that. I am looking at doing alot more with my system. I'll probs build a few more cabs as I think I found a good design with my subs. I would much rather buy but because of my age its not like im making much money to put back into my PAs lol.
I was running the system 2 way at that big party but I am thinking of making my system 4 way. with highs, mid bass and subs.
could anyone reccomend me a good compression driver to get. I imagine i need about 100watt. or lower if its quite efficiant. Plus a big badass horn flare lol. Think i'll only afford a 1" CD.
Cheers Phil

you could always try delay stacking? or even try a cheap line array? the JBL VRX system is quite reasonably priced and has a switch on the back that converts the box to long throw, it just attenuates the comp by +3db but it works rather well.

Well small line arrays are the way things seem to be going. I guess I can get away with my system that I already have at the moment and keep saving for a for something good.
I am looking in the general direction of EAW at them moment. Just had a glance so i'll look into it in more detail later on.
Rightyo im off to a gig now. gotta get that blooody heavy amprack in the van!

could just be the system wasnt man enough for the job...
horn loaded midtop (8") with a decent comp on top are great for throwing top end.
may i add, longthrow doesnt exist ... its just cabs which have a narrower disperion so direct the sound down a narrower area loosing less spl to walls, and ceiling where no-one will hear it.
