Hi folks, while since i been on here. Hows everyone doing?
I want to get more power out of my mid-tops currently running at 300w rms but are capable off about 600 w rms.
In theory sticking a 8 ohm resistor in parallel on a jack plug out of the JBLs should make the amp drive 4 ohm, therefore getting more power.
Reccomended or not lol?
Cheers

im not quite sure what you mean by this but I think you are wanting to increase the output of your PA?
I can tell you that increasing the resistance on your output will increase the load on your amp making it work harder, but please be aware that the amount of power a speaker can handle and how much power a speaker actually needs to be able to drive itself properly aren’t necessarily the same thing. What really matters with speakers is their sensitivity, which is to say how efficient the speaker is at converting that power into pressure, a speaker can drive quite as happily at 300w as a speaker rated at 600w. All that this number is saying is how much power it needs to work.
If you are receiving little output from your system perhaps your amp isn’t powerful enough to drive it?
Anyway I hope this helps and makes sense, perhaps if you can give a little more insight as to what you are trying to achieve i can be of more help

add a 8 ohm resistor in parallel (acting as a speaker) to the 8 ohm speaker - therefore making the load on the amp 4ohm so you get more power

forget it ppl - just one of my crazy ideas.
i forgot that the resistor would take the half the power. and NOT let the speaker draw more.
Sorry people just getting muddled up with electronics here

buy two more identical speakers and run them in paralell on each channel. LOL that'll do it

lol, good advise jim! Although of course don’t forget doubling your power wont double your output!
