Sorry, I am new and i dont know the "Ways " of the forum, but I kinda wanna try something if it's ok?! Ok Then, What are your guys top three songs for Eq'ing and setting up a rig, and why?! Cuz ya dont always have a BBC Soundtest, and a 20 band frequency CD. Cd I'll start off, in no particullar order: Jeff Buckley - Grace: Brilliant track for these purposess, amazingly varied Dynamics Throughout. Fantasticly Complicated, yet superbly Recorded string and vocal backing melody's (Ideal for Clarity) and it's a semi/modern pop track that has'nt been compressed into dark matter. Oh, and jeff has, probably, the best voice ever committed to tape. Coheed and Cambria - Welcome home: Wall of sound heavy rock recording done to perfection. I like to use this to detect muddy frequencies around 800hz When i'm doing anything hard rock. It ABSOLUTLEY Aids seperation, because there is a lot of complex stuff going on there that you need to keep a bead on with this track/ kinda music. Also the singer, Claudio Sanchez, has a very nasal High pitched thin voice, Which just doesn't show through if your crossover points are wrong on a three way system. Michael jackson - Bad: Quite simply, a question of speed. There is no way on earth a badly crossed over flappy sounding sub can keep up with the complexity of the low end in this track. Fantastic for sharpening up your low end room boom kinda EQ. Well theres mine.....Lets here yours!

OK,this is a difficult one because different music needs different setups and so different test tracks. My current favorites are(in no particular order):
1;Any Track from The Feeling,12 Stops And Home but especially Helicopter. The best produced album I have heard for a long time, seems to work for pretty much any musical form.
2;Dave Gilmour,On An Island, any track.Again well produced but mainly cos it goes from 20Hz to 20KHz and has more dynamic range than most,so a good tester.
3;Arnie Cottrell,Crazy Train. Some of the finest acoustic musicians this country has to offer, playing great tunes and fine production. Vocals are amazing and the mixes are stunning.Track1(do you dream of me:bap kennedy)will test the accuracy of any top end and track10(pale blue eyes:lou reed)will test any rig you try it on.You can buy this album direct from Arnie;+4423 8031 5048
Really you should use tracks you know inside out so you can hear any inconsistencies

When I am doing the sound for a vocal harmony band, I always use No More Walks In The Woods, by The Eagles.
There is very minimal accompaniment and the powerful and emotional harmony's are breathtaking. John.
