hey fellers and ladies,
quick query for you
i do alot of live events, and from now on im able to record live and then offer some kind of mixing/mastering of the event (alesis hd24 ill be using to record onto via direct outs), this is just for the basic gigs.
at home i admit to being a pc user so i was wondering, what would you guys recommend software wise in order to mix and master the product.i know of cubase sx3 except it costs around 450quid and i dont wanna spend that much on the software if i can help it.
any ideas? i dont need fancy midi inputting abilities at the min.just something to tweak levels, add channel eq, maybe gate/compress the odd thing and also maybe reverb/delay. depends on the mixing desk set up.
any ideas? thanks alot westy

I use protools with DIGI 001. But Digidesign do make a 8 channel version for free for win98 , which I think runs with any sound card. hope this helps.

I get a lot of joy from Cubasis. (Alright nurse, I'll go back to the cell when I finish upsetting this web page). seriously, if you have a low budget (like me) it does a good basic job. I have used it for cleaning up a live recording, and as you want it to be just that with a gig, you don't need any fancy effects just a touch of EQ. PS Sound Control have Cubase 4 at a good price just now. www.soundcontrol.co.uk

I use Mackie Tracktion 3 and at the moment I couldn't recommend it, due to ongoing bug fixing. However, I use it for recording live gigs and first take studio rehearsals and when it is finally bug free it will be superb. (nearly there). I have the FireWire card option fitted into my Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer and directly connect it to my iMac 20" 2gHz, Core Duo, 1G ram, 250G HD, OSX 10.4.10 The Ultimate Bundle comes with everything you need to turn your live performances into CD ready masters and it's not expensive. Once you have registered your license, the updates can be down-loaded from the Mackie web site. (latest T3.0.4.8) (Feb08) www.mackie.com/products/tracktion3/index.htmlJohn.
