I took my Premier XPK snare drum to the Wembley Drum Centre yesterday, on the way home from work. I purchased and had fitted and tuned, an Aquarian Focus-X Snare Head
"Focus-X™: A texture coated head with a unique "vented" muffling ring tucked into the hoop underneath the head. The Focus-X produces a sensitive snare response and a full articulate sound while eliminating any unwanted ring. Great for studio recording or live playing. Also available in a clear version and a coated with a Power Dot underneath version."
Although my kit is fitted with Aquarian Response 2 heads, this is the first time I have tried a Focus-X on the snare. It has certainly put some life back into it and it sounds dark and articulate, but still powerful. It will eliminate the need for notching-out the dodgy peak of the old head, with the EQ plugin on mix-down. Now looking forward to this Saturday's rehearsal. Cheers, John.

The new snare drum head sounded great at our last rehearsal and was a pleasure to play. I still had to use 1x piece of "Moon-Gel", to kill the tiny bit of ring but it now sounds just how I like it, without having to purchase a new snare. Cheers, John.
