Hi Jim, what are the JBL monitors like? I have still not decided which ones to go for, as replacements for my SoundTech 15's. I'm looking for 4x 400wrms 12's or 15's, for up to £2,000 for the lot. I must admit though, my 2x SoundTech's sound a lot better with my new SoundTech PowerSource 1602, 800wrms per chan into 4 ohm digital amp, but I need 4 and they don't make them any more anyway. John.

the jbl mrx500's are FANTASTIC. You can use them as mid tops, full rnage cabs or monitors. The best bit about them is their weight - about the weight of a freshly born child, very easy to carry up flights of steps. the mrx's go 800w peAK BEFORE SMOKE APPEARS.

Thanks Jim, I have looked at the spec for the JBL MRX512M's and they are exactly what I need. The cheapest I have seen so far is from Soundcontrol.co.uk at £469 each including VAT. I am waiting for a response to my e-mail query to them, for a price for 4 and if they do covers for them, with a view to buying more kit from them later. Cheers, John.

Wow, haven't seen those Volt Radial bass drivers for a while. Quested still use the 15" version on their studio monitors. ATC still use them too! If the cabinets have been designed right then they could be VERY nice indeed. Wembley loudspeaker use them on their Spyder range of PA - pretty decent boxes as I remember

Have you checked out the behringer B1220 pro's? Really good wedges for the price... Just make sure to rip off the badge to be taken seriously lol

lol. u nutter shepz! The bass drivers AND the mid-tops all have volt drivers in them - brilliant design and very long lasting (and forgiving)
Simon used to make the cabs, now we have quite a few of them, enough to run about three gigs at the same time. Ish!

...oh and by the way, those FBT monitors are bloody lovely as well - as good as the jbl's but a little heavier. We use them on the drum mons.

depends on the gig. Small venue, pole mount, and for the big gigs, we stack them. I found the best arrangement (for safety as well as sound) was to stack three mid tops on top of four subs in a line. We did try pole mounting all the mid tops to see what it was like, and it sounded fine but looked ridiculous and a bit too wobbly for my liking!

Hi Jim, I purchased the 4x JBL MRX 512M's and used them for a gig with British Litter in the Cliffe Village Club in Kent on Saturday.
It was a special local gig for their new CD launch, "On The Streets Today" (very professionally done). It's a good venue with a stage and we had it to ourselves all afternoon, allowing a good sound check and a short rehearsal. The band were well impressed with my whole rig (2.4k out front and 2.2k of mons and drum-fill) and my compact stage lighting (2x NJD Quartets and 2x Par56 Profi-spots, rubber-mounted on the FOH speaker poles). The sound punched really well and the band really went for it. Their regular following rammed the gig (about 250) and the comments were, " the best sound they have ever heard at a British Litter gig". Another happy customer. Cheers, John.
