oh yes you can still get a tug for that!!! if you try and advertise one on ebay the moderators pull it straight away. I have had several ambulances - a brill idea for a tourbus as A/ you get the night heater B/ you get all the auxiliary power points C/ fibreglass body, so they don't rot!!!
seriously tho - tell your mate to make sure he tapes over the blue lights or he will get pulled, the police have absolutely NO sense of humour when your driving around ex services motors!!! I'm speaking from experience here, i used to drive around on an ex police BMW motorcycle!! Got tugged plenty of times and the last time they tried to confiscate the bike. LOL. i soon put them to rights there.

according to my friends, long as u dont turn them on in the streets its fine. impersonating a member of the services only applies when you are actually driving with sirens or lights, or doing any other act such as wearing a uniform and waving people out etc... the siren and lights all work, the company they bought it from who previously decomissioned it had cut all the cabling and air hoses effectively making them unusable. they are been fixed back together, but are on a breaker under the drivers seat, and is left off. if they get pulled over, they can flick the dash switches, if nothing happens (ie: they dont work), then all is well. they carry a copy of the service vehicle laws in the dash as a recomendation of the trader. it was bought in an auction in wales, company who sell off ambulances, fire engines, police cars, millitary stuff etc... and yes, heater is very nice, 1/2 pint of diesel a day and keeps it all toasty. fibreglass body is good appart from two things.... 1) first time a woman drove it she reversed into a post and took off one of the rear wheel arches... very difficult to fix as the rear is one piece, 2) the bodywork shakes badly with bass... linked a small genny up later with exhaust hose out window, and went to McDonnalds, out bassed all the chavs haha!

LOL ;D you can come and lash my speakers down next gig LOL ;D I am an experienced fibreglass laminator and really, if you know what your doing, its dead easy to fix damage like you mentioned, as long as you keep hold of the bit that got ripped off.

that was taken when we were back from a 1hr drive. my friend was demonstrating that it will do powerslides around roundabouts, after going around twice we went and got a gallon of chedder valley thatchers and drank ourselves silly.
and yeah, stack was close to falling! there wernt that many points where i could strap them too, and really didnt expect powersliding!!
jim - have you considered windows? from past experience of being in the rear of vans for 5+ hours, natural daylight and possibility to open windows (as people tend to stink after gigs/fast food n guinness) is a real luxury!!

yep thought of that - but by the time i've lashed out on side windows, i could have bought a new van - or minibus. I'm aware that people get motion sickness if they cant see their surroundings - which is why i provided the ps2, take their mind off things, but in the 3000 miles we have travelled no sick has been observed by me. lol. the roof is translucent, and there is a ventilator in the roof - and its only two of them and they dont really do much work, so no sweat. ps the tune 'look for the woman' is currently record of the week ' on radio one as we speak!!!!
